For too long, the dream of a stable, affordable home has been out of reach for too many families in our community. Whether you are a first-time homebuyer, a renter struggling with rising costs, or a senior trying to age in place, the current system is failing you.
As your representative, I won't just advocate for "more housing"—I will fight for just housing. My platform is built on the belief that a zip code should never determine a child’s future, and a paycheck should never be the only thing standing between a family and a safe place to sleep.
1. Expanding and Preserving Affordable Housing
We cannot solve the housing crisis by simply building luxury apartments and hoping for "trickle-down" affordability. We need a targeted, aggressive approach to increase the actual supply of affordable units.
Protecting the Stock: I will fight to preserve our existing affordable housing, ensuring that current residents aren't displaced by gentrification or predatory development.
Prioritizing Low-Income Families: I will advocate for policies that prioritize the creation of housing specifically for low- and moderate-income families, ensuring that those who work in our community can actually afford to live in it.
Ending Homelessness: We must increase the supply of supportive housing for those with special needs and create clear, dignified pathways to transition our homeless neighbors into permanent, stable housing.
2. Reinvesting in Our Neighborhoods
A house is more than four walls; it is part of a community. We need to move away from "spot-development" and toward holistic neighborhood revitalization.
Safer, Livable Spaces: I will prioritize the reinvestment of deteriorating neighborhoods, ensuring that every resident—regardless of income—lives in a neighborhood with safe streets, clean parks, and reliable infrastructure.
Breaking Barriers: We must dismantle the discriminatory barriers that have historically segregated our communities. I support policies that promote the integration of low- and moderate-income residents throughout the region to break the cycle of concentrated poverty.
3. Closing the Racial Wealth Gap through Homeownership
For many communities, homeownership is the single most effective tool for building generational wealth. But for too many, the barrier to entry is too high.
Expanding Homeownership Opportunities: I will push for expanded down-payment assistance and first-time homebuyer programs that specifically target historically disinvested populations.
Fair Housing Enforcement: I will be a watchdog for fair housing. We must identify and dismantle the discriminatory barriers that prevent minority families from securing fair mortgages and housing opportunities.
Economic Self-Sufficiency: Housing is tied to wages. I will support development activities that not only provide homes but create jobs paying self-sufficient wages, empowering our residents to achieve true financial independence.
4. A Unified Vision for Our Community
Housing doesn't stop at a district line. I will work tirelessly with city, county, and state leaders to ensure that District 139 is a priority in every conversation about growth and funding.
Our goal is simple: Decent housing, suitable living environments, and expanded economic opportunities for every single resident of District 139.
