The Role of a Georgia State Representative
My primary job is to be the voice of the people in my specific Georgia State House District 139, which covers part of Harris and Muscogee counties. I act as the bridge between our community and the state government, ensuring the government works for the people, not the other way around. Here is what that looks like in practice:
Making the Rules (Legislation)
I am a legislator. This means I write and vote on bills. A bill is a proposal for a new law. If I see a problem in my district—like the lack of hospitals in Harris County, the need for better roads in Muscogee, or the struggle with the cost of living—I draft a bill to fix it. My job is to draft laws that solve real problems for my constituents.
Controlling the Money (The Budget)
I do not have the exclusive power to decide where money goes. I am only part of the voting process. However, I have a critical vote on the budget. I use that vote to ensure state funding supports the needs of my district—schools, infrastructure, and public safety—rather than just special interests or unchecked growth. I am there to support my constituents.
Checking on the Government (Oversight)
This is how I serve my district: by ensuring the government is held accountable to the people. I am an advocate for my constituents, not a broker of favors. When a family has a problem with a state agency, I work within the House Rules and Ethics to ensure they receive fair treatment and a resolution. I am the voice of the people holding the government to its standards
Protecting My Neighbors (Community Advocacy)
I am the defender of our community’s future. I advocate for protections that keep our families safe, our environment clean, and our economy fair. I fight against the negative impacts of unchecked data centers that drain our resources, support responsible mining that creates jobs, and ensure the growth of our infrastructure benefits the people, not just corporations.
In short, I am a full-time worker for the people. I do not have exclusive power; I have a voice. That voice is used to support my constituents, provide help, and manage the resources they pay for. It's time to write a new chapter for District 139, one built on trust, unity, and a shared vision for a future where every family can thrive now and for future generations.
